What is Hyaluronic acid? (Also known as hyaluronic
acid or sodium hyaluronate) Hyaluronic acid is a natural substance found in abundance in
young skin, synovial fluid and other tissues in humans and animals. It forms a natural hydrating function in the dermis and
epidermis. It is a key component of
collagen and an essential structural element of the extracellular matrix (ECM).
The ECM fills up the space between skin cells.
Hyaluronic acid has unmatched hydrating properties, being
able to hold more moisture than any other natural substance. It is hyaluronic acid that prevents skin
becoming thin and brittle. Young,
healthy and smooth skin has a high hyaluronic acid content.
During the ageing process, the body produces less and less
hyaluronic acid. Over time, free
radicals, produced mostly through exposure to pollutants, and sunlight, further
degrade and destroy hyaluronic acid. A
40 year old woman has already lost about 50% of the hyaluronic acid content in
her skin.
Water keeps collagen in the dermis supple and youthful and
also plays a vital role in the extracellular matrix. This makes the skin soft, smooth and elastic. As the amount of hyaluronic
acid decreases, the skin’s collagen as well as the extracellular matrix become
dehydrated.
Dehydrated collagen means loss of skin volume and elasticity
while a dehydrated extracellular matrix results in thinner, dry and roughened
skin that wrinkles.
The remarkable ability of hyaluronic acid to hold moisture has
been harnessed in Pure HylaGel®. Scientifically proven to penetrate deep dermal
layers, the hyaluronic acid in Pure HylaGel® has been specially formulated to be
rapidly absorbed when applied topically.
By replenishing lost hyaluronic acid and thus increasing the
skin’s capacity to retain moisture, Pure HylaGel® is an effective
treatment for keeping skin moist, elastic, smooth and youthful.

Moisturisers hydrate
the upper layers of the skin and generally come in a cream form.
By comparison, a
serum can deliver potent ingredients which repair and restore long-term changes
in the skin through a lightweight, gel-like formulation that penetrates into
the skin's dermal layers.
A serum should be
applied before a moisturiser in your daily beauty routine.
Typical
pre-moisturising serums contain a 2% hyaluronic acid. Pure HylaGel®
contains 15%
